IR Oncology

What is Interventional Radiology Oncology?

Interventional radiology oncology combines image-guided minimally invasive IR procedures with traditional oncology procedures (like chemotherapy and radiation therapy) to treat metastatic diseases from cancers such as colorectal, biliary, lung and others. These targeted treatments treat cancerous tumors while minimizing possible injury to other organs within the body. In general, IR oncology procedures are for patients with cancer that cannot be surgically removed or effectively treated with systemic chemotherapy. Usually, these procedures are done on an outpatient base but may require a night stay in the hospital. Our interventional radiologists work with your oncologist to find the best treatment options for your individual needs.
